AUTEL AC WALLBOX HOME  CHARGING: dynamic load balancing overview

With far fewer public charging posts than electric cars in Europe, more and more people are choosing to charge their cars at home, and electrical safety is becoming a growing concern, especially how to keep various large appliances in the house running smoothly while charging an electric car, such as ovens, dishwashers and washing machines. Of course some people choose to switch off certain household appliances to ensure electricity safety, but having to do so is inconvenient, and you can't stop washing dishes and cooking just because you're charging your electric car.

This is where dynamic load balancing comes into play: by monitoring the electrical load on your circuit, it intelligently allocates the available capacity to the appliances that need it most, allowing them to run simultaneously without overloading the circuit. First let's look at the definition of dynamic load balancing.

What is DLB (dynamic load balancing)

Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB) is a software tool that allows each parallel job to do its application level load balancing while ensuring that system load is balanced.

In the field of electric vehicle charging, dynamic load management (or DLM) refers to optimising the charging load of a property so that:

a) electricity is distributed evenly to all electric vehicles charging at the same time;
b) as long as there is sufficient volume to charge at full capacity.

Dynamic load balancing is a function that constantly monitors the changes in energy use on your circuit and automatically allocates the available capacity to different appliances. It balances the energy used and adjusts the charging output to your electric vehicle in response to changes in the electrical load.

How does DLB work in practice?

Let's take our MaxiChargers‘ Dynamic Load Management solution as an example:

- Open AUTEL Charge APP
- Click  "My Charger"
- Click "Local DLB"
- Click "Set as Master Charger"
- Set up the data based on the actual situation.

Benefits of dynamic load balancing

Not all smart charging stations are equipped with dynamic load balancing, but many can be upgraded at a later stage due to their ability to connect to the internet. Nevertheless, given the benefits of dynamic load balancing for maximising household electricity consumption, it is a feature worth considering when looking for a charging station. AUTEL AC Wallbox has been OCPP approved and is equipped with dynamic load balancing.

Avoid power overload.
Restricting the total charging load protects the local grid — eliminate a risk of overloading even when multiple chargers are being used simultaneously.

Cut cost. Sharing the charging load cuts costs for the required electricity connection.

Autel has its own DLM solution.

AUTEL AC Wallbox is connected to the Autel charging platform via a GPRS connection using the Open Charging Point Protocol (OCPP).
